Research Associate in alloy structural integrity in nuclear engineering and finite element modelling

  • Organisation: Imperial College London
  • Contract type: Full time, fixed term
  • Salary: £36,694-£49,210
  • Closing date: 24/05/22

The Structural Integrity Research group at Imperial College London is looking to hire a Researcher to work as part of the SINDRI Prosperity Partnership, in collaboration with The University of Manchester and University of Bristol.

The role will be key in developing experimental testing and analysis techniques to characterise the deformation and failure behaviour of alloys and their weldments under plant representative loading conditions. The experimental results will be used to validate collaborator’s material models for incorporation into EDF Energy’s digital twins.

This role is largely experimental, with an emphasis on cyclic loading and fracture behaviour, and will involve the development of novel image analysis techniques for strain measurement. In addition, there will be with aspects of finite element analysis for test design, data interpretation and macro-scale failure model development, complementing multi-scale deformation and damage models from collaborators.
